The balance is within you. Are you ready to tip the scales?
Balance: The Beauty of Life.
Work-life balance is a cycle that we all struggle to manage. It fluctuates and at times is nearly
impossible to find the perfect balance, the perfect formula, to maintain. Life as we know it is hard
enough to balance, and adding work somehow makes it even more challenging. What if I told
you that it is not as bad as we play it up to be in our heads: work and life and finding that balance?
The importance of work-life balance allows you to maintain and improve your peace of mind. Finding
ways to equally prioritize your career and personal life is the state of true equilibrium that we all strive
to be in. Let’s talk about ways that we can combat that intersection peacefully and not be at war with
ourselves, leaving us to decide the better of the two. If we continue to let one side win over the other,
then we are not being true to ourselves and the goals we want in either work or life.
Learning to say no!
Placing boundaries and speaking up with your gut feeling is important because it will allow more room
for you to say yes. After all, our gut is our second brain.
Taking breaks!
Utilizing breaks, no matter if it is a 30-second microbreak, will give you a chance to step away and take a
breather. It will give you a chance to get back to yourself and get in the right mindset and reset for the rest
of the day. It is important to get that time for ourselves. It is recommended to take a break every 75-90
minutes for 15 minutes.
Let go of perfectionism!
There are so many of us who are overachievers that may or may not have developed perfectionist
tendencies in our adolescence. If we trade perfection for presence in our day-to-day, it will allow us to
be more aware and conscious in the present moments.
Unplug!
This is a juicy one!! Setting boundaries and knowing when enough is enough plays a big part in
unplugging. If you have a 9-5, then keep work within those hours. Of course, it's easier said than done with
some careers, but honoring and respecting yourself when you are “done for the day” or “done with
work” is very critical in your personal life. If something can wait until the morning, then so be it. If
someone wants to talk about work or a project or a deadline or an issue (depending on the severity of
each), it can wait until the morning when you are in that work mode headspace. Getting back very little
freedom you may or may not get is important. Challenge yourself by setting up a no-work-from-home
policy post-work hours.
Meditate! Your own way!
We’ve all been there when something gets too overwhelming, and you feel like you are about to explode
from the inside out with anger, or angst, or tears, etc. However, you bring yourself down and calm down,
whether you notice what you do or not, is your way of meditating. There is no right or wrong way of
meditating; we all inhale and exhale, telling ourselves affirmations to re-center, re-align, and regain our
inner badass back. It is perfectly fine to excuse yourself from any setting, shed a tear or two in private,
and adjust that crown while putting your best self forward.
